Thank you to all who attended the recent meeting. The Car Park IS an Asset of Community Value and the whole community need to pull together to bring both the car park and playing field back into use for the benefit of the local community.

Please sign the petition to request the reopening of the car park bottom section for residents. You will need to validate your signing afterwards.

Matlock Community Land Trust has been set up to make a difference in our local community and has received its Seal of Registration from the Financial Conduct Authority. We may eventually want to do other things, but initially we want to use the Cavendish Road car park and playing field on Matlock Bank for the benefit of the local community.

We want to make things better, not worse, for local people and protecting and maintaining the community assets of the car park and field for local people benefits and enhances the local area and the lives of local people.

Keeping the car park for local residents they will be able to be able to park off the congested and narrow roads around Cavendish Road which is a real benefit for the local community.

The playing field next to the car park is in a good location for allotments. It is open, faces south and at the moment is lying fallow. Allotments are in short supply in Matlock and we are losing allotments for development.

We set up the Matlock Bank CLT initially to acquire and develop, for the benefit of the community, the surplus car park and playing field off Cavendish Road. We hope to provide some housing for local people who work in the Matlock community and create some much needed allotments whilst retaining space for residents to get cars off Cavendish Road and Wellington Street to help safe passage on the roads.

What Community Land Trusts are: Community Land Trusts (CLTs) are democratic, non-profit making organisations that own and develop land for the community. They typically provide affordable homes, community gardens, allotments, civic buildings, pubs, shops, shared workspace, energy schemes and conservation landscapes.

Community Land Trusts are run by ordinary people.  They are community organisations run by ordinary people who want to make a difference to their local community, putting control of assets into the hands of local people. They can be set up by the community or a landowner, developer or council.

We want to protect community assets forever. CLTs act as long-term stewards of land and the assets on it. They ensure that it is put to the benefit of the local community, not just for now but for future generations.

A world-wide movement.  Started in the USA, CLTs are now a worldwide movement. In both urban and rural areas, CLTs are a key part of the future of land, affordable housing and community facilities.

We have had huge support from the local community of Matlock Bank since we floated the idea of acquiring the car park and field. If you support our aims and objectives, please contact us.
